CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – “It’s not a procrastinator’s vacation, so let’s keep that in mind,” said Craig Fuller, CEO and Founder of Freightwaves.
Fuller said it was possible for the most popular items to sell out even by Black Friday.
“The years when the economy is doing really well and there is a lot of activity during the retail season, it kind of gets picked up,” Fuller said.
Another possibility is that the items might not arrive in time for the holiday season.
“As of this morning, there are over 71 ships off the coast of California waiting to enter the port so that they can be unloaded and this cargo put on rail or by truck. Unfortunately, some of these ships will miss the deadline to arrive before Black Friday, ”Fuller said.
He said there was a shortage of workers across the entire supply chain, including port workers, retail workers and truck drivers.
“Locally around Chattanooga there are a lot of trucking companies that are really part of our local economy that I have a hard time finding drivers for. It will be even more difficult for them to find people to fill the trucks and ship those trucks, ”Fuller said.
He said the current economic situation is different from what he has seen in the past due to all the extra money pumped in by the government.
“The government has invested so much money and it has made it clear to me that consumers continue to consume and spend this money and that there is a lot of additional capital available for them to do and that only makes generating record consumer demand, ”Fuller said.
